Introduction

No less controversial today than it was in Roman times, boxing’s brutal reputation can often overshadow the immense skill and judgement involved. Rules may have been introduced, and safety measures put in place, but the electric atmosphere of a well-fought match has not waned.

The sport has recently experienced a surge in popularity as gyms and aerobics classes have adopted boxing-style training as a way to improve self-defence, and increase fitness. But it is in the ring rather than in the gym where the sport proves its popularity. Modern day boxing legends like Amir Khan are bringing the sport to life and to the people.
